  8.      For HP 9000 Series 300, 400, 700, and 800 Computer Systems Product
  9.      Numbers 36978A, 36979A, J2144A, J2145A, 36980A, 36981A
  10.      HP-UX SNA3270 allows interactive communications between an HP 9000
  11.      Series 300, 400, 700, or 800 and an IBM System/370-compatible mainframe
  12.      using SNA3270 protocols, handling 8-bit and/or 16-bit data streams.
  13.      HP terminals, monitors, and printers on the HP 9000 running SNA3270
  14.      emulate the functions of IBM 3278 terminals and 3287 printers.

  18.      SNA3270 provides additional functionality beyond emulation to include
  19.      features such as file transfer and multiple sessions.
  20.         The HP-UX SNA3270 is available in two configurations: standalone and
  21.      gateway. The standalone configuration provides IBM mainframe access for
  22.      a single HP-UX computer that has its own HP-UX SNALink. The gateway
  23.      configuration permits access to the IBM mainframe from multiple HP-UX
  24.      computers on a LAN. These computers generally use a single HP 9000
  25.      computer with a Gateway/SNALink as a gateway to access the IBM
  26.      mainframe.
  27.         The SNA3270 products require HP-UX SNALink for a standalone
  28.      configuration. For the gateway configuration, the SNA3270 products
  29.      require LAN-based access to a system running HP-UX Gateway/SNALink. The
  30.      SNALink provides the major features of an IBM 3274 cluster control unit
  31.      and the lower four levels of SNA. Physical Unit Type 2 (PU2) is
  32.      emulated, Logical Unit Types 1, 2, 3, and 6.2 (LU1, LU2, LU3, LU6.2) are
  33.      supported. When used with HP-UX SNALink or Gateway/SNALink, SNA3270
  34.      allows access to 3270 applications on the mainframe such as TSO, CMS,
  35.      and CICS.

  37.      Features
  38.      o Allows HP 9000 Series 300, 400, 700, or 800 system monitors,
  39.        terminals, and printers to emulate the major features of IBM 3278
  40.        terminals and 3287 printers. Terminal access can be through the
  41.        standard HP-UX supported options (bit-mapped display, serial
  42.        interface, multiplexer) or through PCs running AdvanceLink's terminal
  43.        emulator. Terminal access can also be through workstation's X-Windows
  44.        environments by running a terminal emulator such as HPTerm.
  45.      o PC3270 file transfer enables interactive file transfers of 8-bit data
  46.        streams on the HP 9000 to IBM systems running TSO, CICS, or CMS.
  47.      o In addition to English (8-bit) data streams, HP-UX SNA3270 provides
  48.        Native Language Support (NLS), which handles IBM's Double Byte
  49.        (16-bit) Character String (DBCS) data. Supported Asian languages
  50.        include Japanese Kanji, Korean Hangul, and Taiwanese Traditional
  51.        Chinese.
  52.      o Multiple session capability through windows environments enables the
  53.        user to control multiple host sessions on the same monitor.
  54.      o Escape to UNIX(r) shell provides terminal users with the ability to
  55.        access other HP-UX programs while maintaining the 3270 session in the
  56.        background.
  57.      o Efficient screen handling routines provide a very responsive and
  58.        low-overhead user interface.
  59.      o Powerful commands to monitor and control the operation of the product.

  67.      o Supports IBM's Response Time Monitor (RTM) which allows users to
  68.        display statistics on how quickly the IBM host is responding to
  69.        requests for data.

  71.      Functional Specifications
  72.      When used with HP-UX SNALink or Gateway/SNALink, SNA3270 emulates a 3274
  73.      model 51C cluster controller and 3278 Model 2 displays or 3278 Model
  74.      printers (up to 32 for standalone SNALink, or 64 for Gateway/SNALink).
  75.      Some of the functionality of SNA3270 is:
  76.      o All printers and terminals supported by the HP 9000 Series 300, 400,
  77.        700, and 800 running HP-UX are supported by SNA3270.
  78.      o Emulates the PC3270 file transfer capability that communicates with
  79.        the IBM-supported file transfer application on the host.
  80.      o Local screen print, screen logging to disk, 3287 printer output
  81.        redirection to printer, file, or user program.

  84.      For the 3278 Model 2 display: programmed symbols, alt cursor, test key,
  85.      keyclick, extended attributes, encryption.
  86.         For the 3287 Model 1 printer: PA1, PA2, cancel print.

  89.      The product is customer installable. User installation aids such as an
  90.      automated installation procedure and an IBM host generation guide are
  91.      provided to simplify the process. Additional assistance can be provided

  136.      For implementation needs that go beyond installation, the customer can
  137.      either provide self-support, or can purchase additional services from
  138.      HP. These services include Network Startup and HP ConsultLine. In
  139.      addition, the customer can also purchase service from HP on a
  140.      time-and-materials basis.
  141.         Network Startup includes implementation scheduling and coordination
  142.      assistance, network configuration and verification testing, and network
  143.      documentation.

  148.         For Series 800, customer must choose 36980A or 36981A, a media
  149.      option, and a processor option.
  150.         To purchase the English language version, customer must choose 36978A
  151.      (for S/300, S/400), J2144A (for S/700), or 36980A (for S/800) and a
  152.      media option.
  153.         To purchase one of three Asian language versions, customer
  154.      must choose 36979A (for S/300, S400) or 36981A (for S/800), a language
  155.      option, and a media option.

  190.      HP-UX SNA3270 requires previous installation of HP-UX SNALink (36592A,
  191.      98173AA) or HP-UX Gateway/SNALink (36593A, 98174A).
  192.         The software which the customer orders contains both the standalone
  193.      and gateway configuration software. During installation, the customer
  194.      chooses which configuration is required. HP-UX SNA3270 must be ordered
  195.      for each HP-UX computer that is to communicate with the IBM mainframe
  196.      through a gateway computer.
  197.         Upgrade options are available for all the SNALink products. Please
  198.      consult the HP 9000 price guides for details.
